Day before I left I pretty much stayed up all night packing--typical Rebecca. Waiting until the last minute... (I also watched the last episode of the season and of the series of LOST. It was bitter sweet)
Anyways...
We left from the New Orleans last Tuesday at 6pm. My sweet parents brought me and Sophie to the airport and helped us with all of our belongings. We arrived in Miami and then flew from there to La Paz, Bolivia and from there to Santa Cruz!
The Lord was so faithful to get us here so safely and with minimal problems. We did have a couple of issues at the New Orleans airport and we were almost not able to get on the plane. The check in lady was trying to tell us that we had to have visas complete with photos to get into the country of Bolivia. But in the 5 times that Critter has been in the past 2 years he has always gotten his visa whenever he got to the country. We were praying together and talking with the lady and it was like she was a completely different person the first hour we talked with her and the second hour we talked with her... just goes to show the power of our God, the prayers of the righteous avail much. :] so... we got it all worked out she allowed us to make copies of our passport photos and get our boarding passes. Just the beginning of the Lord's faithfulness being shown to us on the trip.
The rest of our travels went smoothly. Take off from New Orleans was great--my best friend from highschool Julie wrote me an awesome letter that she said I had to wait to read when we took off. It was awesome, she is awesome. We arrived in Miami grabbed something to eat and hopped on the plane to La Paz (the highest airport). When we got there some of us began to feel a little sick because of the altitude. But when we took off for Santa Cruz we were all feeling a lot better. Shortly after we arrived at our final destination: Santa Cruz, Bolivia!!! After going through customs and collecting our baggage we emerged from the back of the airport into the front where Rob Bergin and some of the other missionaries of Campus Crusade warmly welcomed greeted us. We took taxis to the hotel, unloaded, got settled and then rested until we all met down stairs in the dining room for Saltanas. The best way to describe them would be chicken pot pies Bolivian style. Collins calls them dinasour eggs. The way you know if you're a true Bolivian is if you can eat them without spilling a drop. None of the Americans could. Hopefully we'll improve by the time that we leave. :] We rested and then met some more missionaries for lunch at a place called Fritolin. It was very enjoyable meeting everyone and talking. After that we hung out some more at the hotel got unpacked and then went to eat at a place called Conik Pizza. They have pizza in a cone. It's basically like the crust is in the shape of a cone and then the pizza toppings and everything are inside of it. It's pretty interesting. We had some troubles with ordering but we figured it out. Language barriers are a funny thing. Builds patience. Afterwards we had some team time with prayer and worship. SO GOOD. Team bonding. gotta love it. Everyone is so amazing. We all hit the sack early exhausted from our day and night of traveling. God is so good. I'm so thankful to be here--and am so excited to see what the Lord is going to do.
